RULES

SECTION 1 Registration etc

1. All participants should be present for registration between 11:00am - 11:30am. The tournament will start 30 minutes later promptly at 12 noon.

 2. Tournament Director can agree to add players after the start time for the following reasons: a) If players are pre-registered. b) If adding another team will enhance the schedule. c) A late penalty is applied. The fee for teams that register after the prelim round has already started will be charged more as the rounds go on (an additional $5 per person per round).

 3. Teams will be assigned numbers in the order of registration.

 4. The order of registration will prove to be an advantage in the following situations: a) 1st team assigned has preference of table/seats. b) 1st team assigned will have choice to shuffle 1st game. c) 1st team will decide who shuffles if the score is tied. d) Teams that register before the scheduled deadline will have the choice to be seeded above or below teams added (according to sec 1-2b), if they have identical records (sets won/loss). Please note that if 2 teams that are registered before the deadline are tied the normal procedures

 * Any team that arrives after the start of the playoff round cannot participate. Teams should be aware of the disadvantage of being late. They will play fewer games thus will most likely be closer to the bottom of the standings.

 Fee: $ 50.00/ per team of 2

 SECTION 2 START OF PLAY (For each set)

1. A tournament official will announce the match-ups and give instructions for teams to be seated (according to sec. 1-4).

 2. The timer will indicate the start of the tournament and dominoes should not be touched before the timer instructs players to do so.

 3. Double six will start the 1st game with play proceeding counter clockwise.

4. The winning team will pose the remaining games in the set.

 5. A timer will be put on teams not present at the start of a set. Teams will lose a game for every 2 minutes after the start of the set.

 6. During the prelim rounds, the first teams to reach 6 wins. NB. There is a 30 minute time limit in these rounds.

7. The timer will give a 2- minute warning. At the point the game in progress should be completed and the score reported.

 8. If the score is tied after the time limit is reached there will be no more games played to break the tie.

 9. Teams cannot switch sides before the opponent reach 3 games (when playing to 6) 

10. A team cannot replace member during the tournament.

 11. Players are not allowed to switch teams.

 12. Each game is only worth one. There are no keys, derbies nor double six for two.

SECTION 3:  LET THE GAMES BEGIN

 1. Either team may may shuffle the first game. However, if there is a dispute or delay refer to sec. 1-4.( See same section if the score is tied)

 2. For the remaining games either team may shuffle. In there is a dispute the team with the lower score MUST shuffle. Any member of the other team may shuffle after if he wishes.

 3. The player who last shuffles must draw his/her domino after the other players.

 4. Dominoes are to remain on the table until all hands are drawn.

 5. If a domino is exposed before the first domino is played the game will be reshuffled.

6. If a player drops a card before the pose an official will inspect his hand and give him a warning. A repeat of this act could draw a penalty.

 7. Leave all dominoes face down until all hands are drawn.

 8. All hands are to be kept above the table.

 9. Either member of the winning team can pose.

 10. A player may halt his partners attempt to pose but must do so immediately.

 11. A player may instruct his partner ONCE to pose. The partner must then pose immediately.

 12. No audible or visible signs or codes between partners. If a team notices any kinds of unusual talk, sign, body language etc. the official should be notified.

 13. A knock is considered a pass but opponent should ask a player to verify if he/she does not have a playable domino on his turn to play. The word "pass" is more acceptable.

 14. Any players is allowed to question the board towards the end of the game in progress but only on his turn to play. A player cannot question before the third go around. ie: each player has already had two turns to play/pass.

 15. Questions should be directed towards all players at the table, example: "cards" or "how many" in response players must respond by placing all cards on the table without any exaggeration.

 16. "Bowing" is permitted if a player shows the others his hand and leaves the cards on the table in good order. Please note, that player must be ahead of the others with "hard" dominoes.

 17. The player that blocks the game may say "block" and expose his hand.

 18. On a block it will be individual counts.

 19. The team that blocks must win the game outright. If there is a tie the win will go to the opponents.  

20. Any player that takes an excessive amount of time can be reported to the referee. The referee will then give that player ten seconds to play a card or forfeit the game.

 21. Any player may keep the score during the sets. However, it is the duty of that player to keep the score sheet visible. If it is not possible to keep the score sheet visible to all, then the scorer MUST give an update after each game.

 22. All the players at the table should make sure that their wins get recorded and keep constant check of the score to make sure that the scorer is not cheating.

SECTION 4 Penalties And Forfeits:

The following actions will result in the loss of the game in progress.

 1. Passes when he/she has a playable domino

 2. Plays before his/her turn

 3. Reclaims an exposed domino

 4. Play at the wrong end causing the opponents to expose their dominoes

 5. Draws a hand looks at it and shoves it in.

 6. Does not heed a 10 second warning

 7. Exposes or hides any dominoes

 8. "Bows" while the opponents have a chance to win.

 9. Does not leave all the cards intact until all are sure how the game ended.

 10. Does not give the correct response when questioned.

 SECTION 5 SCORE REPORTING

 1. It is the responsibility of the winning team to report the score.

 2. Teams should verify the reported scores. This is crucial because it might affect the possible match-ups after the ranking is done.

 3. There will be a five minute break between sets.

 4. After the first round teams will be ranked based on the following (in order of priority): Sets won, sets tied, games won (most), games loss (least).

 5. If there is still a tie after all of the above (sec 5-4) then a 1 game playoff will be used to break the tie (if sec. 1-2b is in effect, then sec. 1-3d will be used to break the tie).

 6. Every team will make the playoff round. The rules from sections 2 &3 are still effective in the playoff rounds (sec. 2-6 is the only exception).

 7. The first round of the playoff will be to reduce the teams to a square bracket (4,8, 16 teams).

 8. In the playoff rounds before the round of 16 sets will be played to 6 games

 9. In the playoff rounds from the round of 16 to the final match-up the sets will be played to 10 games.

 SECTION 6 OFFICIAL’S DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES etc

A tournament official is supposed to:

 1. Make note of the frequency with which a player drop his dominoes forcing a reshuffle. He shall inspect the players' hands before the game is reshuffled.

 2. Look out for any form of coding or communication between partners. He/She will issue a cease and desist warning where it is deemed necessary.

 3. Make sure that players are not deliberately wasting time. A 10 second count can be administered in instances where a player is taking too long to play on his turn.

  SECTION 7 CODE OF CONDUCT

 1. Exemplary behavior is expected at all times

 2. No foul language will be tolerated

 3. No boisterous nor disruptive behavior will be condoned

 4. Heed to instructions of the TOURNAMENT OFFICIAL or risk disqualification

 5. Show respect for other competitors, spectators, officials etc

 6. Obey the rules and HAVE FUN
